In recent years, domestic and foreign scholars have conducted in-depth discussions on the accelerated degradation mechanism of low-temperature LIBs and proposed a new viewpoint: under low-temperature conditions, the precipitation of active Li at the solid electrolyte interface slows down the ion conductivity and electron transfer speed at the solid electrolyte interface, resulting in the specific capacity, specific power, and even failure of LIBs. At present, the low-temperature service environment of LIBs is mostly concentrated in high latitude areas such as high latitude and high altitude, which not only reduces the service life of LIBs, but also brings great safety hazards to LIBs.
Due to the influence of temperature, the lithium insertion rate of graphite slows down, and metal lithium precipitates are prone to occur on the negative electrode surface, forming lithium dendrites, leading to the perforation of the separator and causing a short circuit in the battery. How to improve the low-temperature performance of lithium-ion batteries is the key to promoting the application of electric vehicles in cold regions. This paper provides an overview of improving the low-temperature performance of lithium iron phosphate batteries from four perspectives:
1) Heat generated by pulsed current;
2) Using electrolyte additives to prepare high-quality SEI films;
3) The interfacial conductivity of a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) material with surface coating modification;
4) The bulk conductivity of LiFePO4 material has been improved through ion doping.
