From the data of a single month in 2021, the shipment volume of lithium iron phosphate batteries has exceeded that of ternary lithium batteries for several consecutive months, mainly due to:
1. With the expected withdrawal of domestic subsidies for new energy vehicles in 2023, the advantage of obtaining policy subsidies for ternary lithium batteries with higher energy density will be weakened, and the price will be higher. Coupled with the increasing market demand for lithium iron phosphate batteries in the electrochemical energy storage field in the coming years, the production growth rate of lithium iron phosphate batteries will far exceed that of ternary lithium batteries.
2. The product strength of lithium iron phosphate batteries is also rapidly improving. Several industry experts have stated that the product performance and cost advantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries are currently very prominent. Since BYD launched its lithium iron phosphate blade battery in 2020, the traditional disadvantage of having an energy density lower than that of ternary lithium batteries has weakened. At the same time, continuous technological innovation has enabled lithium iron phosphate batteries to basically meet the needs of all vehicle models with a range of less than 600 kilometers. Especially, new energy vehicle companies such as BYD and Tesla have brought strong impetus to the growth of demand for lithium iron phosphate batteries.
