The biggest difference between 18650 lithium-ion cells and polymer lithium-ion cells is that 18650 lithium-ion cells do not come with protective circuits. Let's first talk about why it is called 18650 lithium-ion battery cells. In fact, 18650 refers to cylindrical batteries with a diameter of 18 millimeters and a height of 65 millimeters. To put it bluntly, 18650 is actually just a naming convention for cylindrical batteries. The 18650 battery cell we are talking about here mainly refers to the 18650 lithium-ion battery cell. The most commonly used lithium-ion cell in mobile power sources is ICR18650, which uses layered lithium cobalt oxide as the positive electrode material. 18650 is generally packaged in steel shells, with a single section capacity of 2200mAh, 2400mAh, 2600mAh, etc. Mobile power supply manufacturers usually connect multiple 18650 sections in parallel to increase capacity, which is why some mobile power supply capacities are not integers.
The biggest advantage of 18650 lithium-ion batteries is their cheapness and low cost. The disadvantage is that the safety is relatively poor and there is a possibility of self explosion. Most mobile power supplies priced around a hundred yuan use 18650 lithium-ion cells. The service cycle life of 18650 lithium-ion cells is about 300 times.
