The matrix materials for lithium battery separators mainly include polypropylene, polyethylene materials, and additives. The matrix material used in the diaphragm is directly related to the mechanical properties of the diaphragm and the wettability of the electrolyte. The world's top three diaphragm manufacturers, Asahi (Asahi Kasei) of Japan, Celgard and Tonen (Dongran Chemical) of the United States, all have their own independent polymer laboratories, and their chemical backgrounds are very profound. The matrix materials used by domestic lithium battery manufacturers are mostly purchased externally, and their own research and development capabilities are not strong. It is reported that Asahi Kasei and Celgard have produced some polypropylene and polyethylene materials by themselves. Especially after partnering with Mobil Chemical and adopting the high melting point polyethylene material developed by Mobil Chemical, Tonen has launched a wet process PE lithium battery separator with a melting point of up to 170 ℃. The use of specially treated matrix materials can greatly improve the performance of the separator, thus meeting some special applications of lithium batteries.
