In fact, the invention of battery can be traced back to 1780. Italian anatomist Gawani discovered when dissecting frogs that although the frog was dead, when two pieces of metal hit the frog's leg, the frog's leg would twitch and feel like an electric current flowing. Where does the current come from? Gawani believes that the current in frogs should be bioelectricity. This statement was later denied. In 1799, the Italian physicist Volta studied this problem again. He believed that the current did not come from frogs, but from two different metals, which would produce electricity. Later, volt invented the volt stack. He stacked two different metals, silver and zinc, layer by layer, with a cloth soaked in salt water. When your hands touch both ends of the stack, you will feel that your hands are shocked. This is the original prototype of the battery. Later, in 1836, Daniel, an Englishman, invented a more modern battery, which is now called the copper zinc battery. Daniel added some sulfuric acid to the sink, and then he inserted zinc and copper. At this time, if the circuit is connected to the outside, such as a bulb, current will flow through the bulb and the bulb will light up. So why is there such an impact? The chemical properties of metallic zinc are particularly active. It is easy to lose electrons in sulfuric acid solution. The metal zinc on the zinc electrode loses two electrons and becomes zinc ions. Zinc ions are released into the solution, and electrons will flow to the other pole through the external circuit. The sulfuric acid in the solution contains hydrogen ions. What chemical reaction will happen to one pole of copper? Two hydrogen ions plus two electrons become hydrogen and fly out. As a result of this chemical reaction, electrons constantly flow through the external circuit and become electric current. This is Daniel battery, or copper zinc main battery. The following is the working principle of copper zinc battery. Potassium chloride is used as a salt bridge instead of sulfuric acid. Later, people found it inconvenient to use sulfuric acid, so they used viscous electrolyte instead of sulfuric acid. Now we use dry cells, which also use a paste material to replace the electrolyte. Why can current flow through two different metals? This is chemically called metal, and the electrode potential is different.
